Ingredients
16 oz white sugar
4 oz margarine
quarter pint of water
8 oz black treacle
1 tsp vinegar
Method
Put the sugar and water into a large deep pan and heat slowly allowing the sugar to dissolve. Once the sugar is dissolved add all the other contents whilst stirring constantly and bringing to the boil. Turn down the heat slightly but leave it to bubble away for maybe 20 – 30 min, to test if the treacle toffee is ready take a glass of cold water and Recipe by Tamsin
drop a small amount in, if it turns hard it is ready if not boil a little longer, be careful when testing the toffee as it will burn you if it comes into contact with your skin. When the toffee is ready pour into a lightly greased toffee tray, leave to cool and put into the fridge until set. Once set smash the toffee into bite size pieces using a toffee hammer or any other heavy implement. Store the toffee in greaseproof paper in an airtight box. If your home is hot store the box of toffee in the fridge to prevent the pieces sticking together.
