Family tells of their dramatic escape from a wall of water that destroyed a Paphos hotel
“I FEARED for the safety of my family,” said a British holidaymaker who rescued his daughter and three nieces after a terrifying mudslide ripped through a Paphos area hotel on Friday morning
Mark Bates and his wife Kelly were eating breakfast at the Corallia Hotel when, “a one-and-a-half metre wall of dirty, brown water suddenly came rushing into the hotel, dragging everything in front of it in its path.”
Speaking from the Coral Bay Resort yesterday, where the family have been evacuated to, Mark told the Sunday Mail: “All hell broke loose. The force of the water sent people and furniture flying and everyone was screaming in terror. Some children on sun loungers outside were swept away and a group of elderly tourists were knocked over like skittles.
